Can’t defend the pick and roll. Can’t make 3s. Get no second chance points. I’ve seen this before and it doesn’t end well.

Dame has been awful in every game I’ve watched.

- I found a stone skipping competition in Minnesota in October. Might head up there. Get on the tour circuit. My record is 38 skips. But I’m sure I could do better with actual competition.
This is one thing I’m freakishly good at. I’ve watched some competitions on YouTube and am fairly sure I could be competitive, especially if I got all into it and practiced.

I know they are all NBA players but the lack of shots for Durant down the stretch is criminal.

Due to the era in which it happened, I think taking Greg Oden over KD is infinitely worse than taking Bowie/Olajuwon over Jordan.
Who has ever criticized the Rockets for taking Olajuwon over Jordan? That pick was a no-brainer at the time and Olajuwon ended up being a hall of famer, multiple title winner, etc. Not in any way comparable to Sam Bowie situation.

I think the criticism over the years focuses on Portland taking Bowie instead of Jordan. Nothing to do with Hakeem

Have y’all heard about this 75 Hard challenge? A married, millennial couple where I work are doing this. My theory is they were huge dorks in high school/college and are overcompensating as adults to try and be trendy and cool.

It is 75 straight days of:
* No alcohol
* Following a diet of your choice perfectly
* 2 separate 45 minute workouts; one must be outside.
* Read 10 pages of non-fiction.
* Take a picture of yourself each day - you know, for encouragement and accountability.

This has to be the brainchild of the CrossFit and/or Big Vegan marketing team.

I mean, what sadist said to themselves, “You know Lent, right? Well what if we make people give up like FOUR things they enjoy, then make them do 2 things that suck. And instead of 40 days, let’s challenge them to do it almost TWICE AS LONG!!!”

“”Why? For religious reasons? Seems a bit unappealing.”

“Nah, man. Let’s do it just because.”

“K.”

Carter is somehow one of the few Tarheels I don't hate.
Same. I always did like Carter, particularly in the pros. Crazy to think Jamison was the player of the year between those two. He was good but you could see from miles away that VC was going to be better.

75 Hard is the braindump of some podcaster who has zero qualifications to advise on training, diet, or anything else. It’s Whole 30 for bros, at best. Apparently if you miss a day, your 75 days restarts from day one. It’s an absurd way to get fit or healthy and it’s a fantastic way to get injured. Two a day workouts are something you have to work up to, and rest days are actually necessary if you don’t want to completely wreck yourself. 100% diet adherence isn’t necessary either and depending on the approach, it’s a great way to lead to a binge.

The truth people hate is that the best exercise and diet is that which is sustainable. Period. Virtually anything else is a crash diet approach that will lead to failure.

(and I spend 2-3 hours in the gym 4 days a week, which is crazy for 99.9% of people)

also, 10 pages of non fiction only? Okay you pretentious hack, because how dare anyone read trashy fiction for enjoyment every now and again.

“Fake” wrestling was invented because “real” wrestling is unwatchable bs.
Hmmmm, what’s it feel like to be the girl that says she thinks football is stupid when it’s only because she doesn’t know the rules and what’s actually going on?

-4 days a week at the gym…pfffffttt 😉

-I think getting your heart rate up twice a day is a great way to lose weight/burn calories but yes definitely not something you should start with.

-Most people should probably just eat a moderately healthy diet and exercise 250+ days a year, boy oh boy would people be surprised that just like that they too can feel great and not be obese.

-the hardest part about any of it is commiting to carving out time for yourself. Most folks work a ton, as does their spouse and we keep kids far busier than necessary...meaning from 4-16 you gotta cart the little turds around.

-im happier when I'm active, I like the way I look and I feel good physically. Because I'm male and have good genetics I haven't had to worry about diet much...that's the next step

Any discussion about fiction v non-fiction reminds me of this scene in Sideways with Jack's (Thomas Hayden Church) future brother-in-law:

Mike Erganian : What is the subject of your book? Non fiction?
Miles Raymond : Uh, no. It's... it's a novel. Fiction. Yes. Although there is quite a bit from my own life... so I suppose that, technically some of it is nonfiction.
Mike Erganian : Good I like non fiction. There is so much to know about this world. I think you read something somebody just invented, waste of time.
Miles Raymond : That's an interesting perspective.

I'm at day 327 in a row of working out for at least 45 minutes and getting all my "move" calories according to my Apple Watch. I got sick in the fall for a week, or I'd be at about 450 days in a row. Mrs. Dougan is currently at about 410. We started this pretty much cold turkey. So the "working out for 75 days in a row is too hard" crowd can, in the words of GYERO, go get pumped.

Olympics are coming to an end; wish I watched more:
  • I always thought the team sports should get you more than one medal. I’m not sure what the number should be, but a gold in basketball should be worth more than winning a gold in say archery.
  • Glad Durant and Co pulled out the victory. He's the man and this is good for his legacy.
  • I love all the track stuff, but I am especially impressed with the career of Allyson Felix. Past her prime but still grinding out medals. No knock on guys like Michael Phelps, but even if you're not at your peak why not go for a few more medals to round out your career rather than retire? What else do you have to do?

I said what I said, and 2 things play into it:

1- It was the same team and the story line was there that they were making the same mistake.

2- Durant was already the all around scorer that Jordan became. Also Jordan’s determination wasn’t as clear until years later when he had lost and lost and lost in the playoffs.

Basically I can see why at the time Bowie was the pick, but I couldn’t see at the time why Oden was and it’s even more clear how god awful it was.

Portland the organization that passed on Jordan and KD. You can joke about “all the titles” Seattle/OKC didn’t win but I didn’t say Portland would have been guaranteed titles with KD or for that matter Jordan.
