Would LOVE to be wrong, and would every last bite of crow, maybe even crow **** if Hardy signs with UK.

But if it is a so forgone conclusion, why hasn't he signed with them yet ? Quick somebody jumps on the gram and she if he is flexing any new cars or expensive jewelry.

*Cal can sell him building his brand at UK (lot more than G-League)
*Maybe even the NCAA passes the likeness pay and actually helps us (not likely)
*Show him the difference in $$$ on his first contract being #1/2 pick as opposed to #5/6.
* Hardy at UK will put them on another level, kid is not a "can be" star, he is THE man this year, bank on it.

There is no reason to set a date to announce you are going to the G-league. Once a kid sets a date, he pretty much knows where he is going. The fact that Cal is still actively recruiting him means to me that Hardy is leaning on going to college. He would have backed off if Hardy set the date to announce he is going to the G-league.

What's the story on Iverson? I don't remember his recruitment
I don’t remember his recruitment either, but Pitino had him locked up to come here. I believe even his Mom said he was coming to UK, or something to that effect. I’m not 100% sure how accurate that is.

What I do know is that Pitino had him coming here, then the brawl at the bowling alley happened. After that, UK basically pulled their scholarship offer to AI. The rest is history.

Kids do it to drum up excitement. They just don’t realize that the whole reason people get excited is in hopes of him picking their college team. Nobody gives a crap when they announce for the g-league.
Your signature GIF is an excellent visual of what it must be like to experience LSD or magic mushrooms. :D

I remember he lost a scholarship offer over the bowling alley incident, but had forgotten it was from Kentucky...damn strange

I would imagine he lost several.

EDIT: As a matter of fact, I know he lost several. IIRC, John Thompson was the only coach willing to take a chance on AI after all that happened. At least that’s what’s always been said.

I get your logic because that is basically what we have come to know. Kid sets an announcement and they announce for a college. That’s really the only reason that that you think that way is because it’s a condition reaction.

I think you’re right. When you think about it all these announcements are are another way for these guys to market themselves and get their names out there. Probably makes as much sense to make an announcement that you’ve chosen the G-League as it does to announce what college you’re going to, from a marketing perspective.

Now that doesn’t mean that Hardy won’t opt for college with his announcement but just that his choosing to have one doesn’t show his hand one way or another.

agreed, Cal just needs to sell him on coming in and being the next John Wall. UK is obviously down like it was when Wall came.....Hardy can be the face of the rise to relevance again

I have no idea. Someone mentioned 750 earlier.
Most I’ve seen was 500 and that was for Green. Like Nix got like 250 I think. I don’t think Kaminga even got 500. I’ve never seen the 750 number thrown out but I’m almost always wrong. Ha

Recap:

1. Iverson told his circle, including his mom, he was UK-bound during his junior year. At that time he was arguably the #1 player in his class and certainly the top guard. Not long thereafter, he got involved in the infamous bowling alley brawl, where he picked up a chair, used it as a weapon, and hurt a number of people, including a young lady. He was given a few months in jail. During that time, Pitino pulled his scholarship. Georgetown was one of the few who continued to stick by him.

** those in this thread insinuating that the 1996 UK team would have been worse with Iverson on it are absolutely absurd and have forgotten how good the kid was at G'Town. He went #1 for a reason in a draft that included Camby, Kobe, Nash, Ray Allen, Walker, Abdur-Rahim, Marbury, Kittles, Peja, Jermaine O'Neal, etc. Yeah, UMass thumped them in the Elite Eight. So what? Iverson would have been a team player on the 1995 and 1996 teams. To insinuate that Pitino would have let him jack 15-20 shots a game is laughable.

2. Ray Allen was also down to UK and UConn before his infamous trip to Lexington where Pitino evidently blew him off while he was eating out with Mashburn at Pitino's restaurant. Allen said Calhoun would have never done that, and ended up at UConn. We probably beat UNC in 1995 if we have a sophomore Ray Allen.

3. T-Mac was scheduled to choose UK in the fall of 1996 before Adidas offered him $10 million to skip college. If any of you decide to never buy a pair of shoes, make sure it's Adidas you reject after what they did to our recruitments of McGrady, Muhammed, and Wiggins.

If UK lands Hardy, it will be right up there with the Ray Allen commitment to UConn, except Hardy won't need the first year like Allen did to iron out his game. Hardy is in the league with Ray Allen. There games are very similar in terms of effortless scoring and all-around skill. People say "Bradley Beal" and that's also a fair comparison, but some of our fans have forgotten how well-rounded Ray Allen was between 1994-around 2008, when he started to lose some of his athleticism and become the spot-up guy so many modern fans remember him as.

Hardy to UK would be just about as big as Wall to UK at this point, and only a few notches south of Mashburn to UK. The difference, of course, is that we had Mashburn for three years and Hardy will only be here one if he comes.

If we get him, it brings UK back to a hype level we haven't seen since 2015. He's that good and our program needs a kid of that caliber if we're truly going to unite the fan base and return to our previous Antigua-era glory.

Fingers crossed for Saturday.

$500,000 is less than the difference in one position at the top of the NBA draft —not to mention all the potential publicity that comes from playing for a Kentucky, possibly on the big stage late in the NCAA tournament.

So if you think you might improve from, say, the seventh pick to the sixth pick in the draft, based on all the factors that come with Kentucky, then it makes FINANCIAL sense.
Especially if we get Nike to pay him to come here, which we should. He's worth it.

When is the last time we had a player the caliber that Hardy is? Fox?
We only got see the unfinished product with Monk, but he may have been the most fluid and gifted 2G I've ever seen at UK. I think Hardy has a lot of the same feel. Of course, Monk wasn't a complete player - although he had all the God given ability to be. Whether that was due to not being fully developed, laziness, lack of competitive drive or basketball IQ, I don't know. So, Hardy may be a more complete player, but if he is a better offensive freshman 2G than Monk I'll have to see it. And although Murray's offensive game wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as Monk's (to my eye anyway), he certainly got the job done just as well and at an incredible level for a freshman.

I'd still bet on him not attending college, but we'll see. UK would suddenly be in excellent shape if they somehow nabbed both him and TyTy in one week.

I'll have to take your word for it Richie. I don't really remember Beal's game, and haven't watched him in the NBA. How would you describe Beal's game at FL, and as freshmen do you think Beal was a better offensive player than Monk?

No, Monk was better in college. Only thing is, Monk was very streaky. I remember hoping like hell we would get Beal. IIRC, Cal recruited him really hard.

Beal was a high tier scorer at florida similar to Jeff Shepp. Monk was a better player in college. I’m gonna link you some Brad Beal highlights and then some Jaden Hardy ones and you can see for yourself

Kentucky is better at getting guys in the league than is the G league. No brainer. Add in the likeness money and double secret no brainer. If he doesn’t choose KY, it might be because he doesn’t want to play team ball but just go out there and AAU ball it to make himself look good.

Of course, I don’t want you to get him but it’s just common sense.

Among other things I would say
True-but think of it this way, if you lose 43% of your 500K salary before you even have had to pay an expense.....how much do you end up when factoring in cost of living, etc..? Now add that this is where NBA puts up their teenagers they are taking from CBB/not allowing to go straight to NBA. It's a horrible business model that is going to ruin a lot of young men who just see the contract and have nobody telling them they could easily clear more $ under the table in CBB--along with NIL coming.

Lol, after California takes half his money, he better hope the Heat draft him.
