Suggested by another poster; that 7/10 would take Billy D. right now, over Cal.
hiding the the individual votes; so please vote freely

early results show that poster was completely wrong...almost exactly the opposite...
C'mon you Billy D fans show your support.
Where you at you; closet Cal supporters and haters?

Like others, I didn't care for Cal's stance on these made up issues.

However, there is NO ONE else I want leading my team.

He is a great leader, coach, and person. Even if I question his political ideas :p

My god, equality isn't political. Jesus this backwards redneck board is laughable.

I'll take Billy, but I think he stays in the NBA. The NBA cache would do him wonders in recruiting and I'm sure his coaching has improved. Plus, we'd have an offense and his defense wouldn't be far off.

oh yeah, I'm not a child, I don't care if he didn't want to coach here before. Life is all about change.

IMO the issue with him passing the job multiple times before tells me he doesn’t want to be here. So I would always been concerned he’s coaching with 1 foot out the door. Cal wanted the job when we hired Billy G and at this point it’s hardnot to believe him when he says it’s his dream job. He’s passed up a lot of other offers to stay here.

A legit offense would be nice though.

I do not feel it is fair to say the issues are quote made up, but I definitely think they are uber politicized and that I do not care for. There are clear problems with police brutality and also clear problems with citizens doing stupid stuff and resisting arrest...not that being stupid justifies deadly force in most cases of course unless the civilian is a threat to others around them, including the officers.

I voted for Calipari but Donovan is a great coach as well. If he had not choked away the title in 2014, he would have 3 titles and 4 Final Fours and be one of the best coaches of the modern era by far. The 2 titles is still outstanding but because he did it with the same crew it is cheapened in the eyes of some on this board and elsewhere. I doubt if AD, MKG & Lamb had come back in 2013 and led us to #9 we would hear that same argument but I digress.

This feels like a let's make a deal choice... keep what you have or choose behind what's behind the curtain. Billy's not a complete unknown - but what is known is 1. He rejected UK and 2. While he caught lightening in a bottle for two years (would NEVER happen again to get a group of NCAA champs to all come back) - he folded in the end.

Not looking to get Zonk'd here.

What a nice way to stir the pot. Some like to just try and keep crap flowing. No one ask, but IMHO this pandemic has give many too much time to think. The He'll with the Munster, turned is down twice, guess 3rd times charm.

Everyone is equal under the law, so why lie to people by making it political, making it seem like some aren't?

Because it's politically advantageous to make people feel like they are disproportionately being targeted, all the data actually says otherwise, criminals are all treated the same irrespective of race.

SO then why lie? Because you've made it political, because you and Nike gain from telling lies.

Can't see Donovan returning to college after he's gotten a taste of the higher salary and fewer headaches (ie. no recruiting worries!) of NBA life. I think he'll either take another NBA job or a cushy TV gig.

And, besides, I'd be embarrassed for UK if we gave him the chance to reject us for the third time. And there''s no way in hell Cal's gonna leave with the mountain of money he's still owed on that crazy contract, so I really don't know why we're even having this conversation.

I’d trade Cal for Billy.

Billy is 5 years younger. won 2 titles and went to four final fours at a football school. And I’m not sure we’ll ever escape the label of one and done U as long as Cal is here and with the g league paying them bigger money out of high school, other programs being allowed to pay, this isn’t a good time for us to be known for that.

Cal has no problem getting the best of the rest but those kids aren’t good enough to be the core of a serious title contender as freshman and sophomores and they still leave anyways.

Maybe filling the holes with grad transfers will be the solution. We’ll see. But I think you have to have some kind of roster continuity to consistently field a top 5 team and I don’t think we’ll ever have that under Cal and long gone are the days of him being able to pick whatever incoming freshman he wants at every position.

Also, I suspect Cal has some enemies in the wrong places and that’s at least part of the reason we currently find ourselves on the bad side of some double standards in the sport. I agree with the poster that said he doesn’t think Cal will be allowed to win another title. Even if we do have another 2012 team come through I’m sure we’ll get Higgins’d again. It’ll just be a different name.

So yeah, I’d take the trade. But not because I think Donovan is a better coach.

I keep seeing this 'lightning in a bottle' phrase referring to Donovan's back to back titles.

Isn't it super difficult to win back to back titles?

And couldn't you also make the argument that Cal caught lightning in a bottle with Davis, MKG, and TJ/Lamb coming back?

I voted for Cal. Billy had those two back-to-back championships 13 years ago. Since then he's had two NIT appearances, a season under .50, and only one Final Four.

I like my coach.

After re reading my reasoning it makes my wonder why I’m even still following the sport. It’s more of a drama and bureaucracy than a legit competition now days.

I voted for Cal. Overall best coach and he loves being here. Anyone that can deal with our fans for as long as he has should get a purple heart. Mr. D had his chance twice, and left us standing at the alter.

Reasoneable answer . I've always been a Cal supporter but the guy has some issues on game day . Our offense is getting to the point its mid feb before we look like we have a clue . Teams take forever to gain and identity . And Yes , Cal seems to have enough enemies where it makes advancing that much harder in the NCAAT . Thats why its awful we lost last year , who knows what we might have done . Could have flamed out , could have went on a run . This year is extremely important in keeping the fan base happy .. and I didnt even mention his venture into politics :(
