~W/ the new bar, Merrick has the best patio in town. Azur is fine, but the cheap tables/chairs has the tried and couldn’t feel to it....excellent eats always, however.

~Dudley’s rooftop tonight.

~The outside shared area between Drakes and Wild Eggs was genius during these capacity restrictions. Perfect for brunch.

~fylm makes a killer strip steak....still recall that from a tailgate some years back.

~MJ not liking Skyler in BB was predictable...probably above his pay grade. Her character had the perfect balance to Walter’s chaos and they picked her moments to shine.

~Anyone boycott work today for no justifiable reason w/ hopes of still having a job tomorrow?

~Playlist of Croce, Lightfoot, Stevens, CSN = bourbon on the deck music.

Hey WCC...just sending a caring thought your way for you, your better half and the little one as time draw closer.

-Planning an eight-state jaunt through the West next summer ourselves. Seems like the entire 17 days could be spent in Yellowstone/Teton alone, but we'll be mixing in Vegas, Grand Canyon, etc. along the way. Only one state is currently on Andy's no-no list, so hopefully it'll go off without a hitch 10 months from now.

-If it weren't for the bubble, this "boycott" talk wouldn't even be happening, IMO. Maybe a one-night sit-out, but not an entire shutdown of the season. You could tell from Paul George's interview the other night that the whole thing is just wearing on these guys. I think that's why their reasoning (beyond saying that it's the Wisconsin incident) is so vague. Oh well. It's 2020. Can't have nothin'.

-Congrats to J. Palumbo on her channel now being the official UK sports station. That's what we needed.

-Certainly not ideal, but virtual school went about as smoothly as could be expected yesterday. My youngest needs/wants interaction with other kids, as she's entering middle school and wanted that entire experience. The oldest is cool with knocking out classes online in a condensed day so that she can then hit the pavement for a run, watch "Grey's", etc. Yin and yang, I guess.

-Even liberal snowflake Chad hit the bullseye with the underlying problem re: COVID, lockdowns, etc....there's no goalpost. Actually, there have been about 3-4 different goalposts, which means there's no goalpost. Can't hit a moving target.

I see PTI going more the sailboat route and just cruising the open waters. Of course someone else will need to sail it as he runs port to port.

Actually there was a very clear goal post that we successfully nailed about 4 months ago. For whatever reason that was moved. Now we're so terrified of a single case we have no exit strategy.

Watching basketball (and sports) gives us all a sense of normalcy. If it goes away, they’ll be making a huge mistake. Now is not the time. I understand why the players are upset. But not now. Now is not the time.

--What is the best place to take my parents to eat outside in Lexington tomorrow? We normally eat at KSBar but they want to take me out for my birthday and because of my dad's health, he is only comfortable now eating outside. Of the decent places, what has the best setup?

I recommend Don Jockey in Midway. Plenty of better 'outdoor seating' venues in CKY but I've not had a bad meal here.

Upscale Mexican joint with good cocktails and fantastic food. Close to authentic as you get without having to rough it in a Cardinal Valley dive. Try the 'Midway Burrito' if you like spicy. Their mole poblano sauce is dope, too. Just a nice spot and a good change of pace to get out of town. Take the back roads and unwind.

Call ahead and ask for outdoor seating, right on the strip.

Stopping now does not really effect their current salary but evidently if they quit then the networks can claw back some money and renegotiate their TV deal. ESPN paid a lot for the NBA package. Overpaid actually, which increased the salary cap. If they can renegotiate then that will be a big hit in the future. Also the CBA could be up in the air. So my guess cooler heads will prevail this morning.

Pro sports athletes have been called entitled, spoiled brats for decades. Literally since sports became a professional career. And I say this as someone who has read the biography of Old Hass Radbourn, and whose interests in sports date back to the Civil War.

Pro athletes make tens of millions a year, but the owners make hundreds. That's normal in any business, but what's NOT normal is that the labor is the true superstar, face of the organization, and overwhelming driver of the revenue. For 150 years in this country, that's been a huge challenge to deal with. So if you wonder why athletes occasionally use their platform to push people around over their beliefs or management disputes or ideas, that's it. Even as zeros have been added to their paychecks, there still exists the belief that they are mere chattel.

-Heady time right now as I just ordered some new loafs and my needlepoint belt is < 3 weeks from completion (leathered).

-Yesterday my daughter asked me if there was a virus when I was a kid and I about lost it. I hate that her 6 year old mind is now skewed by this disaster, but such is life, I suppose.

-Impromptu trip to Graeter's with Dad yesterday evening to lift our spirits. Not much a cookie dough sundae can't improve.

-On the way she asked if I liked chocolate ice cream. I told her how before I met Mom I lived alone and could spend my money however I wanted and buy whatever I wanted at the grocery, and that always included chocolate ice cream.

She couldn't believe the fantasy land I was describing to her and all of the possibilities! Me neither, kid. Son of a *****, me neither.

-fylm, been roasting chicken breasts a lot lately out of expediency. Brine for 15 minutes. 18 minutes or so at 450. Salt, pepper, some herb seasoning deal I've got. Actually pretty damn delicious, but wouldn't mind a little more flavor if you have any recs (besides DIAF for being a rube).

-Fans, French Bistro Music on spotify is a nice lil playlist for cooking, drinking some wine, and mentally escaping this hellhole reality we've built for ourselves.

-When hung vertically it really irks me to see the stars on the right side rather than the left of the American flag.

-Hung a K flag out back when W&W passed. Still up and lass hasn't said anything. A jagoff neighbor has had a UVA flag up on his back deck for a year now so worthy tribute aside I'm glad to counter his pompous *** (I didn't like him before).

-I've always thought that a Kentucky/Virginia rivalry would make a lot of sense. Frankly, that Kentucky was once Virginia is a great historical fact that could really be amplified in a collegiate rivalry.

-Not that this dump river city will ever recover but the UofL/Bellarmine rivalry is, dare I say, flickering? Lot of angst about the Cards not scheduling the poor old Knights. Nods. Head.

-Come Monday is the greatest Labor Day weekend song of all time.

-Frank Otte's big sale starts tomorrow, I believe. Enjoy 50% off on all hardy plants.

-Obviously I'm not a Cal licker, but at this point he's gotten to be a little bit like that 10 year old loaded luxury sedan you bought new off the lot in 2010. I mean you're changing the oil and it's still a nice looking vehicle, but aren't necessarily freaking out about a nick from an errant car door and the kids have been eating in it for a few years now. Kind of where I am with him in general but especially about the loss of Payne and Peavy.

-5 of my all time favorite oldies:

Take a Letter, Maria - R.B. Graves
Time Won't Let Me - The Outsiders
Dawn (Go Away) - Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
Suspicion - Terry Stafford
Green Tambourine - The Lemon Pipers

Rack SAE on instrumental playlists for background listening. Especially helps the last two hours of the work day. I switch between several of them during the week:

-Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Holst, etc.
-Erik Satie's Gymnopedies
-Disney park loops (these are scores from classic movies and old American standards, not "Disney" songs)

I'm not sure my dad has ever been more touched by a gift than when I had Graeters shipped to him as a Christmas gift. As a result, he now gets a shipment of ice cream for all occasions.

top five Graeter's flavors:

1. mocha chocolate chip
2. black raspberry chip
3. buckeye blitz
4. smores
5. strawberry chip

HM: salted caramel chocolate chip; bourbon pecan

I know a fair number of Ohio residents who claim Jeni's is superior. Unequivocal absolute false. It's fine, but it's overly rich, pretentious, and way too impressed with itself. I love ice cream and I have trouble finishing a scoop of Jeni's. It's too much man. Give me Graeters or give me death.

Life is too damn short to order Graeter’s flavors without chocolate chips.

If you MUST I guess get two scoops and mix and match.

Shorts:

- Speaking of my dated, makes no sense in this context “Tell’m Jamal sentcha” joke, NO ONE in Kentucky sports history was better in a commercial than Hal freaking Mumme.

- Thank you, UKO. Appreciate it.

- Wish PTI was having less fun.

- Can’t beat a classic sundae.

- Tough being the only liberal friend in a SEC sports thread, too.

- I’ve just never liked myself in a buttondown. Polos for dad.

- I think we club Auburn in the damn head.

- You can discuss it from many different angles but the difference between early Cal and late Cal may just come down to a few shots going down or rimming out in March coupled with the euphoria of new love verses the monotony of established love. Think about it.

That's an awfully slim margin for the likes of a Crean coached IU team, a Bruce Weber Kansas State team, and a hobbled Auburn team. And a whole bunch of shots not going down must be responsible for that losing record to a Rick Barnes Tennessee program, but it's whatever, I guess. Monotony of established love atkot.

:: Y'all need to learn High Road Ice Cream out of Atlanta.

:: Fry Tips:

- Blanch for no more than 6min in nearly boiling water with a tablespoon of kosher salt and 1/2 tsp of baking soda

- Freeze the fries. Lay them flat on a tray lined with parchment and make sure they're not touching

- DO NOT go past halfway up the pot with oil.

- Get the oil up to 350. If you have a thermapen that would be best.

- Very Small batches with plenty of time between to allow the oil to rebound.

- Salt immediately out of the fryer

:: SAE. I like to spatchcock the chicken then rub a compound butter under the skin. I stir together a teaspoon of rub (Kosher Salt, Black Pepper, Cumin, and Herbs de Provence), a softened stick of salted butter and some fresh parsley.

- Pat dry the skin before going into the oven and hit it with a little kosher salt mixed with baking powder. That will get you crispy skin.

- Rube!

Great selections! Green Tambourine is one of the greatest one hit wonders of all time.

Speaking of Dawn (Go Away), it makes me think of another hit by The 4 Seasons, Rag Doll. The former tells the story of a poor boy who is in love with a not poor girl while the latter is about being in love with a poor girl. Rag Doll must've been Portland poor.

Other older songs by the same artist(s) that contradict one another:

*Have You Ever Seen the Rain/Who'll Stop the Rain - CCR
*Wanderer/Runaround Sue - Dion and The Belmonts
*Hold On/Release Me - Wilson Phillips

And just like that, the NBA is back. Now just keep Lebron the eff off of a mic and we might finish this. NBA can't do jack **** about this ****** situation going on, I get it, but not holding your profession hostage.

If PJ Washington makes FTs, we go to 2 more FFs. Cal isn't losing to Loyola. They could've had a dozen 90 year old nuns there. It wouldn't matter. Cal doesn't lose to mid majors in the tourney. It would have been close and nerve wracking as ****, but we would have prevailed.

Then there was '17, when we lost on a buzzer beater to the eventual national champion. That's how close we've been and these are Cal's down years.

I like the moves he's making. I like this roster. And I love that we have 2 stud wings. I get visions of my all time favorite UK tandem, Anderson/Mercer. It was short lived, like a comet in the sky. But man, was it a sight to behold!
