You can be extremely thoughtful and sympathetic and kind and open minded without all the guilt. Some people literally feign hatred and guilt over being rich, educated and white. For that, I’ll never understand.
Feign? There’s plenty out there who despise anyone with means, even if it was self-earned.

Why do you think hacks like Wolken have gone from player safety to calling for permanently cancelling Greek life on campuses? Hint - it’s not and never was about safety and the virus for many.

Nothing pisses me off more than anti-Greek guy. One of our God-given American rights is freedom to assemble. Eff Wolken.

Just read an op-ed in the NY Times asking if we should “cancel” Aristotle and I’m still not sure if it was written tongue-in-cheek. I’m not being funny. I seriously can’t tell.

Also- I don’t know how to link from an app.

- I’m dumb. If the NBA bubble is now reporting 0 players are positive for the virus, why must they be socially distanced and masked up on the benches/practice facilities? Are optics that important?

If that’s the only way to get major sports back on my tv, then keep masking up!

- I’m still uncertain if they’ll finish, but it actually looks like baseball and basketball are going to be played. Never thought that would happen. Glad to be wrong, maybe.

- I don’t mean to brag, but I look good right now. Fit, 6-7 miles each evening (much prefer the dusk run as opposed to the run at dawn), 200+ pushups with additional core work, manscaped (but not completely shorn; trimmed). Best beach body I’ve had in a decade, but no beach to go to. Thinking about setting up an OnlyFans profile.

Sorry that sounded like a rogue random. I’m turning 44 in a few days and with the way things are throughout the world, I think I’ve missed the opportunity to have a true midlife crisis.

-
The Cars are underrated. The Police are overrated. I said what I said.

- Dan Wolken was severely bullied in high school/college and never fit in although he desperately wanted to. Only explanation.

- The little pup we got 6 weeks ago is now wide open. Black lab. The kids have grown weary of taking care of him all the time, so he’s become “mine” and he knows it. Gonna be a good boy.

- One of the big reasons I enjoy this place is to just escape for a few and get random thoughts out of my head. It’s always been a great outlet.

With that said, I will be going to a funeral home for the visitation of a former player of mine today. Great kid from a great family. Not going to give too much detail on here, but it will be devastating. Life is precious, gang.

SAE puts a hypothetical post out there about the benefits of leaving all familial and household responsibilities for a couple of months and I make one about getting in shape since I have nothing to do. And I’m the one going through a divorce? [laughing] Oh, PTI.

Yes on The Cars and I agree on The Police when it comes to their studio albums. However they're one of those bands that dial up their live shows to another level. Songs sometimes only follow a loose framework and morph into an expanded rendition, showcasing their musical expertise. Think Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Earth, Wind & Fire.

Check this recording out and report back.

The Police could rock. It's when Sting fell in love with his voice and wanted to turn every rocking song into a ballad followed by his "jazz" career that he/they lost me.

-Wolken has openly cheered for all sports to cancel, cheered for them to stay closed, called for ridiculous restrictions for reopen, called for MASS testing for athletes, criticized mass testing for athletes, was lauding Turkey's testing yesterday, wants to shut down fraternities. Never once acknowledging these players are more likely to die walking to the stadium than from Covid. He has no balance. I liked him before this but, geez louise, Playball think the dude needs to chill.

-If you're looking for decent political commentary I enjoy The Rising.

-That fanaticism of politics has always been there. Now we just don't have anything to distract from it. Both parties are just... well... sad. The talking points and dig in weekly stances are exhausting. It's OSU vs Michigan, UL vs UK, Bama v Auburn, Dem vs Rep. No difference. Going to stay positive this morning so I'll just leave it there.

-Lots of positive news out there. Just have to look.

-Total rube question but am I going to have to switch to Hulu from YTV to watch the Reds?

-Posnanski isn't a great writer, not terrible but more suited for articles than books, but Buck O'Neil is just impossible not to fall in love with. What a character. Enjoying this dive back into baseball/negro league history. Much needed after the Pat Tillman book. Yes, Ursch, I'd love to go to the HOF again, but I just don't see that happening this year.

-Now that the shine wore off SAE's post let remind him how big of a pu$$y he is for getting his feelings hurt and running to hide for 2 months. Then comes back in like he's Frank Sinatra walking into the Sands. Give me a f*cking break. Grow up, pal. Just like anyone you have some hypocrisy within your beliefs. It happens, part of being human, we're all a little selfish. No need to sheepishly scurry by the tailgate hoping to be unnoticed, stop and say hi for 3-4 minutes.

This will eventually go down as the worst Shark Tank decision of all-time:

These people had an awesome tasting vegan fried chicken recipe, but almost no sales, and were COMPLETELY clueless about business accumen. Cuban and Rohan offer them $1 million, plus a 10% royalty, for 100% of the company, and they turn it down.

o_Oo_Oo_O

Think of it this way --> they could have hired two brilliant businessmen/billionaires to be their CEOs, and they get a 10% cut of the revenue those turbo ballers produce. And they turned it down. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

-The NBA players aren’t living in Biosphere 2 (great recent doc, btw). The bartenders serving them Launchpad McQuack Hand Grenades every night aren’t living in the bubble as well and that’s why they should keep wearing the masks.

- All-time GYERO Ricochet Shot from Strokin’ to SAE above, man!

- At our current Hamilton County threat-level midnight, I have to be in the office 1-2 days per week in order to help preserve our company culture. So far, I’ve been in for four days wherein I’ve sat in an empty office with an N95 and headphones. As for all-important office cultural interactions, one guy dropped by to ask me to do some moonlighting work and design his deck. Everything else has been a Skype call. (In the before times, I sat at my desk with headphones on and they threw mints at my back to get my attention). Check those metrics, boys. I’m hittin’ em!

-the cars are criminally underrated. In particular, their influence in the indie rock world is broad. Ex: obviously the cars are the strokes primary influence...and the strokes are likely the most influential indie *rock* act of the last 15 or so years.

-i will throw in cheap trick as well.

In the same post blasting me for not participating in the nonsense you called it exhausting. K.

This thread was a GD dumpster fire. I opted out for a bit. Spared everyone, including myself of the useless exercise. It wasn't about any feelings being hurt. But, my bad, bud.

Speaking of feelings being hurt, I see the time I used the sidewalk in front of your house is still a sensitive subject.

Who's gonna be the first GYEROMAN to get busted doing something incredibly stupid on Zoom?

Not gonna lie, I've had a few close calls where I forgot my camera/microphone was on.

One of the primary reasons I just started a new job. My old boss literally made the white males in the company feel like **** because we were white males. And he’s a white male!!! White male privilege atkot. Eff that nonsense.

The Police were the only show I left before it ended. Defund them. Sting is a douchebag and the show was absolutely anemic of any kind of energy. Money grab.

Tom Petty Southern Accents Tour was equally as boring but the catalog is better.

Thanks, Strokin'. I was having trouble deciding what to listen to today.

Next up: The Cars - The Elektra Years. Fantastic collection of music. Insanely good.

On deck: The Police - The Police (Remastered) 28 of their best.

Speaking of music, does anyone else listen to Tom Petty's Buried Treasure? It is a 1-hr show he used to do on XM. They have a channel on the XM app that plays every season. Incredible music.

I had no idea how funny he was. He would've been a good Gyeroman.

Our government just gave 1.95 billion to order 100 million vials of 4 vaccines that are still in clinical trials with the option to buy 500 million more. Serena Williams 2 year old daughter just bought into ownership of the LA women’s soccer team.
Not sure which was the better investment.

~The case # fear conveyed by Andrew and his blowhole doc friend needs to cease. It would be really nice not to hear the life or death speech each day when nothing could be further from the truth in KY. Having the local media bow down at his every word makes it all the more difficult to have a convo about it w/ people who thrive on his antics. If you haven’t read the CV19 thread, then Anth and others provide true info...it’s out there, you just have to look. #commonsense

~My pop turns 80 today. Thankful and sad at the same time....we always played golf on his day, and last year he barely got thru 9 holes due to arthur and back issues. He lives vicariously now thru my ****** rounds and my stories of cawood, 360, and some of the guys on here and their tales. Thanks for sharing those. He was scratch in his day, and played with a lot of the local best from his era...Johnny Owens, Gay Brewer, Larry Gilbert. Highlight was playing with Sam Snead in the pro-am at Griffin Gate years ago.

~Although it is only 25% capacity...it is still 87K fans at the Indy 500 next month. No reason why there can’t be fans at ANY sporting event that is taking place.

~Destin can’t get here soon enough, and then LV in Nov.

~Great reads by chase, bbdk, and SK on their golf exploits. Congrat$$

~For you IPA’ers.....Lagunitas DayTime is the best light IPA I have found...trumps any light piss water that is popular on here by a wide margin.

~Unless the world ends, 2021 is shaping up to be a very expensive concert year.

~KISS Alive is still holding strong all these years.....firing up Rock Bottom now.

WEDNESDAY MUSINGS

- Walked into work and the overhead music had Fun's "We Are Young" playing. That song will forever put a spring (pun?) in my step. I think that song was on repeat well into 2am when I was drunk texting co-workers to probably not expect me in the next day.

- It's really weird knowing we are now closer to the year 2050 than we are 1990. OLD.

- Been talking to a travel baseball mom from Clermont County. Is this the norm:

1. Last Thursday traveled to Ann Arbor for a 3-day "tournament."
2. Got back late Sunday night and then had games Monday and last night and then shagging balls until 9pm.
3. Sent me a picture of them at the field at 6:30 this morning for a 7:30am game?

F that.

- GYERO dream last night: hit a homerun in a GYERO-sponsored softball game off of PTI.

- Speaking of sleeping, I have been having horrible sleep paralysis and night terrors the last week. Damn, those suck, but the moment you can finally move almost feels orgasmic to me? Last night had the feeling someone was pushing in on my armpit with their finger for what felt like 15 seconds. Weird. Anyone ever experience this?

- $20 on the Reds at 18/1 to win the World Series. Minus whale/marcus.

- Frozen pizza that went in looking like a hit, but ended being a strikeout: Outsiders Pizza Company's Detroit Style. The caramelized cheese around the crust was fine, but the hot dog-tasting pepperoni was too much for pizza dad. Out.

- But, Barleycorn's Cincinnati BBQ Grippo Burger was fantastic. The blue cheese went well with the Gripps.

- A nice summer tan and dropping 12lbs can go a long way mentally.

IF the NBA restart happens next week, I'm not sure if I'm tuning in for the whole season. On the one hand, it will be fascinating to see how it turns out. It will be such a different format than the usual that front office innovation and individual player dedication could make results that you would never see in a conventional year.

But if it is a bunch of forced WOKE nonsense with everyone trying to out-do each other to prove that he is the one who is the most outraged over George Floyd, etc (I'm looking at you Kyrie), that's going to be ******.

My biggest concern, of course, is that it goes off without a hitch so the CAYTS can lace 'em up in November.

Congrats on the demon, matts.

-You crooner fans might enjoy Kyu Sakamoto, Japanese singer. His tune "Sukiyaka" (awful translation apparently) went all the way to #1 in the US in 1963. Pretty amazing, really.

Great tune. I've committed to learning it for karaoke and plan for it to be my first song at Patrick's once my wife and Andy say I can.

- I had a close call a month or so ago on a Zoom call. Luckily was driving through the mountains and the joke I made to the coworker next to me to wasn't heard.

Just a, "Looks like Tommy's got something, go ahead."

Heart sank.

- Default picture is up 95% of the time on Zoom calls.

- Dumbass governor here has made a statewide last call at 10pm for 30 days. F***ing ********.

- Sports being back...and Colorado legalizing sports gambling will be a welcome distraction.

- Hearing the ACC is canceling fall sports, just waiting for tuition checks to clear.
