Coors Banquet - good for a sixer every month or so.

Miller MGD - good every three or four months.

Red Stripe - a 12 pack every 6 months

Miller Lite (12 oz bottle) - Good every night.

Land Shark - When i run out, wife usually has 6 or 8 down in the crisper. I will have a couple every now and then. Not bad, have had worse. Would not go out and buy them, but not bad in a pinch.

Would drink Natty or Keystone Light before Coors Light or Bud Light. True MFN story.

Love Bud heavy's every 4 or 5 times I get beer. Bottle only.

Sapporo - Once a year I will get a few and get right, then the next day I am reminded why it is only once per year.

Wine

Drank a fifth of Cisco one time, near death.

Three fifths of Boonesfarm strawberry is not recommended. hangover from hell.

Mad Dog 20/20 Kiwi mixed with Sprite in pretty damn good and cheap buzz.

Only time I've had Coors Banquet was at the Rose Bowl. Their beer options were Coors Banquet or Coors Light. Considering the seating goes about 40 seats per row. Decided to just buy multiple banquets at once to cut down on leaving seat.

Submitted a bid for a hotel in Montana, and was very aggressive. Going to need to visit that one and see what that state is about.

No School[roll], MFer I was born at the totally wrong time. About 40-50 yr too late for most of my interest, but about 20-30 yrs too early to avoid school. Sumbitch!!!

No clue what it would have been like living through an era where JFK, RFK, MLK, and X were all killed along with all the other social mess back then, but the stuff we are living thru now is just wild.

Weighed in at 265, the lowest I’ve been in maybe a year or 2. 15-20 pounds to go.

Red wine randoms for wcc:

• If you like Petite Sirah, these four are excellent and readily available at Total Wine. I love PS as well but it can be tough to find around here.
  • Macchia
    
  • Stags' Leap
  • Caymus
  • Petite Petit (this one is a great everyday PS)
• With your in-laws in Williamsburg, you should acquaint yourself with Cabernet Franc. Some very good producers over near Charlottesville. CF would be right down your alley. It's a little lighter than Petite Sirah, and not as jammy, but outstanding when done right. Trivia: Cab Franc is a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon (the other is Sauvignon Blanc).
• Pinot Noirs can be extremely good, but you'll pay for them. It's a tough varietal to get right, so you'll get a lot of crap PN. It's a little too light for my taste anyhow.
• If you want a red that you can serve cool on a warm/hot day, look for Beaujolais, Chianti (not Classico), and Dolcetto d'Alba. These will be lighter and fruitier with softer tannins and higher acidity.
• Here are the most common red varietals and a few words/recs for each:
  • Cabernet Sauvignon - big, full-bodied, tannic. Perfect for fatty meats because the tannins cut through the fat. New World Cabs tend to be fruitier, while Old World Cabs are earthier (my preference). Napa Valley Cabs are overpriced, but they ARE very good. Some excellent Napa producers that are generally < $50 are Sequoia Grove, Clos Pegase, Mount Veeder, Black Stallion, Freemark Abbey, and Courtney Benham.
  • Zinfandel - there's no such thing as "red Zinfandel." The Zinfandel grape is red. White Zin is simply Zinfandel that hasn't spent as much time with the skins. And it's for girls. Zinfandel itself is high in alcohol, fruit-forward, spicy, full-bodied, and less tannic than Cab. I think it's one of the harder ones to pin down because of the variability in taste. It can take on many different "personalities," so it's a fun one to explore.
  • Syrah/Shiraz - more acidic than Zin, with moderate tannins. A good one to try if you're looking for something similar to Petite Sirah, but less tannic and less body. As with most reds, New World Shiraz (Australia mainly) is fruitier than Old World Syrah (France mainly).
  • Merlot - gets a bad wrap because of "Sideways," but it can be outstanding. It's similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, but not as tannic. It's also more "blue-fruit" than Cab, and you can even get some mocha notes.
  • There are hundreds more reds out there, and thousands more if you include blends. Malbec is one that is increasingly popular and can be very good. Some that aren't as popular but are worth checking out: Carmenere (Chile), Tannat, Petit Verdot, Mourvedre, Pinotage.
• I didn't list Bordeaux above because it's a blend, and so difficult to discuss generally. The red Bordeaux blend consists of 5 varietals, in varying amounts - Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, with the first two dominating. There is tons to be said about Bordeaux reds - left bank vs right bank, the different appellations, vintages, etc, but suffice to say that at their best, in my opinion, it gets no better. A good Pauillac, to me, is perfection. Unfortunately, the price tag matches. Regardless, there are tons of affordable Bordeaux out there, so go explore.
