People keep saying Brandon Ingram, but he’s a little shorter.

Of recent guys, I would say he’s got a lot of Jarrett Culver in his game.

I can see that. I do like the Ingram comparison too though. The kid is just wired to score from anywhere.

But ultimately the bottom line is, no comparison will be perfect because he’s Brandon Boston. He’s unique. And I think he’ll be REALLY good.

I'm hoping for a more consistent version of Kevin Knox his Freshman year. Better handles and probably a higher NBA ceiling but that's what I'm expecting next year.

My comparison is 2 players. His quickness up the court and slashing lanes reminds me of Fox. His jumpshot and way to create space is Ingram.

Ingram has a massive wingspan. Probably why he seems taller. Dude can scratch his knees standing up. Boston has more guard skills. His shot has no wasted motion. Gets it out quick.

6'8" now long, He can Play small ball power forward and destroy some tools hardcore! Dudes a top 5 player all day now, 2 inch growth spurt on a top 10 player who was 6'6" now 6'8".. That is huge for next year's team!

They both 6’7
Boston is 6'8" now. We are so Long you add in 6'8" Fket her and yes he is also 6'8" now unless the P.A. announcers just make up heights now. Both have been introduced as 6'8" in games this past season. We are going to be a long team and a defensive nightmare for the nation!

I actually think all around he's probably better than Clarke and that's saying a heck of a lot, Clarke is a stud. I think Boston is a little better shooter. If EJ comes back and Jackson is as good as expected the length on this team is ridiculous. Hopefully we can land one of the grad transfers Marfo or Tape' and we're easily top 3 .

Prince is the best I can come up with. Boston is probably a better ball handler however. If IQ comes back, Quick, Boston and Clarke will make a terrifying trio. Now we won't have Nick anymore protecting the rim so our defense needs to be really good. But that's the only concern I'll have for next year is defense. Offense won't be an issue. You have big guards that can rebound so we should be good there. Excellent outside shooting and even depth which we rarely have under Cal. And something else we never have under Cal, except in our title years. We'll have our best player returning. If we can guard people this will be the #1 team in the nation no doubt.

I really don’t see the Prince comparison that much. Boston is much quicker and a better shooter but nowhere near as long. Thus I doubt he’ll be as good a defender as Tayshaun.

I have seen little, but first impressions was a taller Fox.

Where does this rank among Cal's recruiting classes?

The one game I saw he looked nowhere near 6’ 8”. That was after the first of the year.

It’s kinda hard to rank because there’s 2 guys in the top 5, BUT no more in the top 25, BUT 4 more in the top 50. So it’s deep but kinda top heavy. Most of Cal’s classes lately have had mostly guys ranked 10-25. And Cal has never gotten a couple scoring wings like this so it’ll be interesting how he uses them.

To me, it most resembles the 2011 class, numbers-wise. Mind you, I don’t expect either Clarke or Boston will be as good as Davis, but you’ve got 2 elite players and some strong support after that. I think Askew, Jackson, Ware, & Fletcher will be on par with Teague & Wiltjer.

Rip Hamilton at UConn. Quick release, lanky, excellent off the dribble or curling off screens. He isn’t bothered by missing a few in a row.

Tough comp. I've heard Ingram a lot, but I think it's more because they have a similar physique and can both shoot the ball well at their size. His handle is elite. Don't see a lot of guys that tall have such a tight handle. He creates a good amount of separation whenever he wants. Release and form on jumper is perfect. Doesn't shy away from contact either.

I think a really good comparison is Ray Allen in his earlier years.

You guys are not remembering Prince very well. The guy was a great ball handler. When stuff got tight, he was the one that broke the press. Also, he could shoot lights out.

That said, the comparison of Prince to Boston is completely wrong and unfair. Prince was a far superior ball player simply due to experience. Boston will be a Freshman. Heaping all these expectations on him is just stupid. Expect him to play like a freshman. Enjoy his progress when he makes it.

NBA TV’s Beau Estes was a fan of Boston’s game from having watched him earlier in his high school down South before I started covering him at Sierra Canyon.

“BJ has that Scottie Pippen like quality where he appears to not be trying and yet he’s everywhere on the court. While he was clearly the most talented player on a floor full of D1 prospects, he was always a willing passer and an engaged defender,” Estes said. “There were moments though, when necessary, that BJ took control of the game in a way that made you wonder how high the ceiling on him could be. The ball handling is there. The passing is there. The athleticism is there and the frame is there. It’s probably quicker to say there’s not much that’s not there for BJ Boston. That’s a fantastic report. We need all the guys we can get like that. Passers, ball handlers, shooters. Add on that engaged defensively and you have the blueprint for a quality player.

Better shooter than Tayshaun!? That would be sweet.

I’d say since Fox and Monk for me. Going back Randle before them.

For me I believe he can impact the game to that level. The guy can be an elite defender....if Cal can get that out of him it is going to be lights. His handles, vision and explosion are extraordinary.

Boston was that small forward player that always eluded us for so many years. Cats should be balanced next year. Just need quick and Richards back to do work.

I went back and looked. Tayshaun was a 33% long range shooter in his Kentucky career. Which is really pretty average, though it’s especially decent for a guy 6’9”. (Mind you he could get in a hot streak like that game against UNC, what a classic) But I think Boston is much more wired to score than Tayshaun, especially at the same age. I could definitely see him being a 20 point per game guy in the NBA.

Well big guys like him was rare to see shooting that clip back then I guess. Seemed like he was a bit higher.
