My 2 favorite memories about old old time Arkansas basketball:
...The Triplets 1978 (Delph, Moncrief,Brewer) who Ky's defense somehow "hogtied" in the National semi-finals. 64-59 Scary game
...Dean Smith + Heel fans HATED playing the Razorbacks.

I don't post much here the last 4 or 5 years, but it was always fun talking with the Hog fans many years ago. They always brought good discussion, and always always always brought great user names lol. I always thought they had the best of all the visiting fans who visit our site.

As for tomorrow's game, I know next to nothing about this edition of the Hogs, and what I know about our UK team is, we can be pretty good, or we can be really bad. Anyone who claims to have this UK team figured out, is BS'ing you.

Are there any old timers from long ago that want to banter about the Hogs/Cats game like we used to almost twenty years ago? I tried legitimate discussion in the "Arkansas Game" thread, but as usual it was hijacked like most of them seem to get. I am sure Junkyard, DMAC, Oink and others that have been regulars for many years would enjoy it too.

My favorite game of the year, a house divided for these games only, wife has been on the winning end far too often.

Don't really know what will happen, hoping for an exciting game and a Razorback win at the buzzer.

I have been around since the Eddie Sutton teams and the triplets, so yeah, I've been around. My son is taking my grandson to the Bud for the 3rd time. So far UK has lost both times he has made the trip. Maybe the third trip will be the charm. They will be easy to spot wearing Blue and White. Both my son and obviously my grandson were both born in Arkansas. Wonder how they became UK fans? :sunglasses:

As for the Hogs, one thing you will notice that Jimmy Whitt's shooting form is crazy bad, but he is an old school player that is absolutely deadly from mid-range 0-15 feet, and probably the glue for this team due to his versatility and defensive ability. Isaiah Joe is a spot up deep shooter that Hagans better be on like a glove. Mason Jones is a successful as a deep shooter or driver, draws a lot of fouls, and shoots over 90% from the foul line. Desi Sills has been in a bad three point shooting slump this season, but is a fearless driver and finisher at the rim, especially from the left side. All four of these guards are very good defenders.

The Kentucky keys will be to pound it inside, pound it inside, and pound it inside some more, due to having Richards and a huge size advantage there. Additionally, if your guards can penetrate to the lane to break down the defense, you will have many favorable options. I don't believe that we have played one minute of zone all season, it's almost entirely a straight up man to man with an occasional double team.

Obviously, I hope that the third time is not the charm, Kentucky has had the best of us far too many times lately.

I have been married to my Kentucky wife for over 31 years, and although I have almost completely converted her to an Arkansas Fan, she definitely won't be tomorrow, and will be entirely in Kentucky Blue!

I remember the three basketeers, Brewer, Delph and Moncrief in the mid to late 70's, they were a really good trio of players.

Always thought it was pretty cool when you guys renamed “The Pyramid”...... called it “The Pigamid” when the SEC Tournament was played in Memphis. Started on the old Mikrotec UK forum in 1996.

Mikrotec Squad FTW!

I'm going to game tomorrow. Think I'll hit Hugo's pregame ... any other advice from the Hawg delegation?

back in the mid-90s Arkansas had the best defense in the country hands down and the job that Corey Beck did on some of our guys was the best I've ever seen

Go back to the real Cats Pause, the paper variety. Saw the UK vs Ark final four game in person.

From that game we got your coach but that didn’t end well. The Cats comeback in the SEC tourney game was a classic.

The hassle you got in the Arkansas game thread was over the line. As for tomorrow, despite some of the bravado, no one can reasonably predict how UK will play. And I haven’t seen the Hogs this year.

Not going with the ubiquitous bromides concerning referees, no one getting hurt, etc. Hope we run you out of the gym.

We haven't been bad in basketball, at least not as bad as we are in football right now. Anderson had us consistently average to above average but we did struggle to do much of anything in the tournament. Still, his last 5 years I think we were 3rd in the SEC in W-L record.

Back in the early day of the interwebs, just a few years after AlGore invented it, I recall that the Ark fans were the worst of all with regard to trolling each others fan sites. I don't even remember the LilBro's even having much of a presence at all...it was the hog fans. To this day I remember a female fan of theirs called "Doc" from Conway. She was their Zipp. Those were the dial up days.

Don't anyone get the big head. This has been the most enjoyable thread. The civility and reasonable discussion has been refreshing. I don't know why I'm surprised as Kentucky and Arkansas are really the most accomplished basketball programs in the SEC with the most loyal fans. Thanks to all of you for the thread.

Well that explains why they fired him. Thanks

Thank, believe me, it's no big deal, I just come back at them with facts, or ask them to provide justification for their ridiculous comments and they quickly disappear.

As for the game, I am hoping for an Isaiah Joe three pointer at the buzzer in double overtime to win by one!

I am so old, Oscar Coombs was a young man when I first started posting on Catspause.

I can tell you there will never be a better SEC rivalry than the Cats and Hogs of the 90's.

It just doesn't get any better than Pitino against Nolan Richardson. Pure hate and the fans loved it.

And the absolute best pure basketball by both teams. Running, gunning, pressing, Forty minutes of Hell vs. Pitino Bambinos bombing the three from anywhere and everywhere on the floor.

I sure miss those days and those teams. Neither team today is anywhere close to being as good as any of those teams.

I only go back to ‘08 with forums but I was in the stands screaming my head off during our SEC rivalry nearly 30 years ago. I’m just glad you all finally got rid of Mike Anderson so I can finally wish you all luck again in every game except ours.

Hey ThreeHogNight, I was around when Nolan and Pitino had all those great games in the 90's, those were some great games, you had guys like Delk and Dillard who could flat-out shoot, you had horses like Corliss and Antoine Walker, man, those were some up and down teams for sure - great rivalry.

I agree with you. Those teams would crush most teams today, and even though you got us more than we got you, they were incredibly intense and fun.

I miss those days before things became so commercialized. TV timeouts, extreme AAU leagues, handlers, etc have killed the vibe of old NCAA games.

I miss the wars between Arkansas and Kentucky before all the craziness in the past 20 years. Before Ashley Judd tirades in the stands and gobbling up the limelight and environment, embarrassing even the most ardent Wildcat fans.

fortunately I don’t think she’s gonna travel to Fayetteville.

Present and accounted for. I use Sagarin for picking the vegas odds and it's usually money. Sagarin says Hogs should be favored by 2.5. I'm sure that gets bet down to pickem.

We run a lot of five guard lineups. If i were Cal. I'd feed Richards all day. I've brought this up on Hog boards and get laughed at but if i were Cal, i'd press us. We've only got a couple of really good guards with great handles. Desi Sills and Jalen Harris. The rest of them do fine but haven't seen a ton of pressure this year

The difference in this years team is our man to man defense. May be the best I've seen from a Hog team. Our ability to guard the three is amazing. We've got several that can fill it up from outside but will get clobbered on the boards.

Keys to victory for Hogs- Shot selection, share the ball, good defense and don't give up too many second chance points. We will play 7 guys and shouldn't tire.

Keys for a UK victory, take Jones and Joe out of it. Get to the line, feed Richards and play some zone. Take the crowd out of it.

We love Musselman

Crowd will be the best it's been in ten years.

So that 5 guard lineup is why Arkansas is 14th in the league in rebounding? We aren't so good ourselves so that doesn't give us that much of an advantage.

It is almost always a four guard lineup, Musselman goes to five if he sees a matchup problem for our opponents or foul trouble. At any rate, we suffer on rebounds because of it. Richards may have a big day.

I like UK's chances. Unlike SC, Arkansas will not try to slow down and make it a wrestling match. We play a lot better when we get a chance to use freedom of movement and actually have some pace to the game. Well until we get a 12-14 point lead, then I make expect Arkansas to make it a nailbitter.
