Begins my favorite time of the year. I am 65 and have been listening or watching most every game since about 1965. I am a sore loser and it spills over on the board so I apologize in advance. It’s my therapy to recover from a loss. I am hoping for a couple more titles in my lifetime. Go Cats.

It's 2 hours of my favorite entertainment and hobby, but it's also a lifetime of family memories and tradition, a perfect conversation piece among strangers, a common bond in a time where nearly everything else is divisive, something to look forward to that breaks up the work week nicely, and a pastime during the dreariest and darkest seasons of the year.

Nothing like college basketball. I’m so ready!

First game of the year, bunch of freshman, I’m good as long as we are competitive. I can’t take another clobbering like Duke gave us, uhhhhh.

I remember as a kid sitting with my grandad listening to Cawood. We didn't have cable so we were only able to catch a handful games a yr but we were always listening. That's some of my favorite memories as a kid

I think the biggest thing about radio was that you lived the game through Cawood. He would get excited and it would excite me and I couldn’t even see it. It was a great way to listen by then through Cawood’s eyes.

Guess you have the skinny on his schedule to make that call huh? I’ll be up watching but don’t like the late start either. Won’t get in bed until after mindight, wake up at 5 AM and then I won’t be back in bed until midnight again. Makes for a long day.

That does sound like a long day for you...

I will say the late tip ruined my week last year...hoping for a better outcome this year and we will all be just fine.

I still don't feel sorry for @Ron Mehico though ;)

I just turned 30 and I still try and get back to my dad’s house for as many games as possible. He raised me on the Cats and we both lose ourselves in the game for the two hours that it’s on. I try to explain to outsiders and they just don’t get it.

it’s more than a game, it’s a lifestyle.

Yeah I'm excited for it to start . my sometimes ( always ? LOL ) pessimistic attitude has me thinking this isn't the year we can get # 9 . Nick and EJ seem like really good guys , easy to root for , but neither seems to have the combination of grit , desire , basketball smarts , etc to anchor the paint and lead / assist us to the title . Hear's the good news - college hoops is so entirely watered down anyone from a handful of teams can win it . I just look at a few past winners and they all had top ten type draft picks at the 4 or 5 , or it seems that way to me.
Hopefully I'm wrong , I still have some hope that EJ evolves into a better player and grows into a larger role .. that happens we have a shot .
I'm not putting too much stock I this game Tuesday , win or lose , it doesn't really matter in 5 months . Great post earlier by Gonzo , very well stated .

NCAA is guard and wing dominant now. There hasn't been a title winner with a dominant big since 2015.

UVA, Nova and even the Carolina team didn't have any lottery pick bigs that I can recall. However, all three had a stretch 4 who could shoot and dominant guard/wing play.

You are spot on over the history of the sport, but of late things have changed.

Whether EJ and Nick can give UK what it needs for #9...we shall see.

Yeah I agree with your take in general . The game is no longer throw it in deep to your 5 on the box .. but you still need a rim protector . Va had Deandre Hunter at the 3 , he was playing on fire in March , we dont seem to have a guy like that . Every team that wins it has guys at the 4 or 5 that really contribute , they may not be the primary offensive threats but they contribute . I dont see Nick or EJ as being able to contribute at that level of play .

injure is the big thing. Last year was a title favorite if you ask me if not for injury. Can't have two of your starter playing at 70/80%.

I'll be 30 in a couple months and still watch at least 90% of the games in the same living room I watched them in my entire childhood with my parents and my brother. For the last decade or so, that's also included my brother's kids.

Tuesday night will make for a late trip home and even later bedtime, but however tired I'll be at work Wednesday is more than worth it.

I was sharing with my son yesterday how much I enjoy watching the games with him over Messenger. We have even done it while he was in Afghanistan. He was getting up about 2 am to watch our beloved Cats. Someone said something about how we strangers have something so much in common being fans of this program. I love how families grow and stay close through something like this. Here's wishing everyone an enjoyable game tomorrow night. A victory will be nice, too.

Glad to see UK basketball means so much to others as well. I knew that already, but man, it's great to read that from others. My wife (who's a true blue fan as a Maryland transplant) always laughs at me because I'm always counting down to basketball season. I say, "I can't wait" more times than I can count throughout the summer months, and once again, I can't wait.

I'm about to turn 34, and my dad passed away when I was 12. Last season he got to see was the 1998 championship team. Not a bad way to go out if you ask me. My love for the CATS came honest through him and my entire family, and it's been fun for his memory to be kept alive each basketball season that goes by.

I think our team will be in the mix again, and if they can wrangle in Cade/Greg Brown, we've got a chance to be really special two years in a row. I think we actually beat Michigan State tomorrow night, and this board goes nuts with championship expectations. If they lose, we'll be just fine as well. Either way, I can't wait.

Now wait just a goldurn moment. This can't be. I've read on here many, many times that you're a troll who hates UK. :sunglasses:

Not the kind of post you’d expect from someone not old enough to remember the Unforgettables or Cawood Ledford (as it was happening).

And that’s meant as a compliment. Wise and well-stated.

I feel you. I am 48 and my son is away for his freshman year of college and our twice weekly tradition of watching the games together are over for the most part. It won’t be quite the same without my buddy there.

I’m lucky to live in the central time zone so these late starts aren’t QUITE as brutal for me as those of you on eastern time. That being said, I’ll be in Boston for work all week this week, Wednesday is gonna be rough for me.

Time flies I bet. My little guy is 5 and starting to take an interest. Can’t wait to have my little game watching buddy become as crazy about this stuff as I am.
