I think I would take Kansas over Duke. I just don't think the Blue Devils are gonna be very good this season. I'm not sure what to expect between Mich St and UK. Both teams have returning talent but both teams have injuries to key players. I feel pretty good about our ability to defend the perimeter and I think we will have some success scoring against them, but there are many unknowns here. Both teams have some young players in key spots as well, so it may come down to who performs best when the lights come on. MSG tends to bring out heroic play from some and causes others to wilt. I'm planning to take a closer look at Mich St before Tuesday to come up with a prediction.

Vegas has Michigan State-2 and Duke -2.5
I love both underdogs UK by 8 and Kansas by 3
Can’t believe Dook is favored. KU will rip Dook a new one. Bet the farm AND townhouse on Kansas. Best bet of the college season on the first day.

I think both these games could be blow outs, from both sides. I could see UK running away from MSU....I could see MSU doing the same. I do feel the winning spread will be +6 for whoever wins this game. Something just tells me this game isn't gonna live up to its billing. Not right now anyways.

How in the hell did they figure duke should be favored over KU? If I was a bettor, I would be all over this one. Duke doesn’t stand a chance.
Yeah, I am surprised by this. But Duke has talent. I think we got spoiled, so to speak, with the trio they had. Using that as a measuring stick. Dukes nowhere close to what they were last year...But they still have dudes that can ball.

With that being said---I think Kansas runs them.

MSU should beat us in a close one. Their experience should win the day.
That's what I expect but could also see them unable to stop us. If Gonzaga put 103 points on them in a scrimmage their D isn't up to snuff this early. This is a game not to bet.

Agree with the majority-KU is more experienced and should win. Harder to predict UK/Michigan State. Depends on effort and rebounding...

I would be a little more confident if UK were at full strength with Richards and Allen. Richards does provide an inside presence. EJ just looks the same to me as he did last year, which was meh. Allen would provide depth and shooting.
Hope the lights go on for him, (EJ) but so far I don't see any difference or improvement in his game.
I have not seen one second of MSU playing so I have no idea how they have looked, but UK has not looked like the #2 team in the country to me, and actually shouldn't considering all the new moving parts, plus injuries.

Until Richards proves himself in real games using his absence as an excuse is unacceptable. Allen really wouldn't provide more depth to where it is needed. I know it seems like Kansas should win easily but Vegas generally knows more than the fans. They must be seeing something we don't.

What they know is a lot of people bet on duke. If they make duke an underdog most of the general public will better on them. If vegas gets too much money in one side they have the potential of taking a big loss. They are smart about lines. It’s not always what they think should happen.

UK is yet to pass the eye test for me. Not loving only getting 2 as a gambler, would stay off this game.
I disagree big time. UK has 3 legit guards and plenty of shooters. Nobody is going to keep maxey and hagans out of the lane and Quickley Sestina Juzang are not guys you can just leave wide open. The defense has been spectacular holding both opponents to like 30 percent shooting. We may not have a Kat but between Sestina Brooks and Montgomery we have some length to offensive rebound and dunk on people.

you should bet however much you’d be willing to pay for a Kentucky win on the Michigan State ML.

If Nick doesn't play we will be in a battle but I like our backcourt to really give them fits. We just need to double Tillman with Sestina and Whitney and make someone else beat us. I like us by 3. The Dook line is a joke. They must be living in the past I think KU will drum them by double digits. That's a bet I am going to have to take. KU getting 2.5. I will take that all day long. Gonna be a rude awakening for Dook.

KU initially opened at -4.5. That is a hell of a swing in 24 hrs time. Maybe they expect a KU pkayer or 2 to be ineligible by then.

KU should destroy Duke, but college ball is hard to predict, so who knows?

MSU should beat us in a close one. Their experience should win the day.

It’s about production, not experience. This team has loads of experience - Hagans, Quickley, Richards, Montgomery, Sestina.

EJ Montgomery has more experience, but if we could replace him with James Wiseman or Isaiah Stewart, we’d be ten points better, and we’d probably beat MSU. MSU’s frontcourt produces and ours doesn’t. And as Montgomery is keen on proving, just coming back another year doesn’t guarantee you’ll produce more.

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying.
I think Duke is way down on talent this year and that's not me comparing this team to the last 3 they've had. I just think they’re level of talent is down and so are their number of experienced players.
I also think Jones is going to get exposed. He won't have Zion and Barrett to hide his deficiencies.
KU by 15+ in this one.

My wife thinks the same, but thinks UK wins by 12-15. I don't see it. I say Cats by 5. The other game, I'll take KU by 8.

I'm glad you posted this because I thought I saw that opening line at a decent margin for KU, but when this thread was posted, I thought the OP was misteken.
That is a heck of a swing and I wonder why.

I saw it reported initially as -4.5 and then ESPN had it listed there as well on their app. So I assume that was correct. And yes, that is a pretty big swing overnight for no apparent reason.

Are you saying KU opened as 4.5 favorites? And now they're 2.5 'dogs?

Surely there wsan't enough money dropped to change the favorite and move the line 6 pts.?

Yup, that's exactly what happened.
I find it extremely hard to believe that the money being put on duke would move the line that much. something is going on.
I mean, I can't foresee the line move that much if KU lost two key guys and Duke gained Zion.
Something big happened. There isn't that many bettors that would take THIS duke team to beat THIS KU team. No way.

Eh, I'm not as confident. ESPN BPI has Duke as a 63% chance to win. By the same token, they have MSU as a 61% favorite. Meanwhile, KenPom gives Duke a 64% chance to win and MSU a 55% chance to win. Doesn't seem like the rest of the country echoes the views of a lot of people on here that Duke is that bad...

This isn't one of Duke's best teams on paper no doubt, they could be bad this season. The only thing is K has done better with less in the past.

Kansas might be better on paper, but Duke seems to come out the gate firing on all cylinders most years, and I'm just not sure where the KU's players heads are at right now with these impending NCAA allegations hanging over their heads like a dark cloud...

Kansas better hope for a blow out because Azubuike can't be on the floor at the end of a close game.
