When Ball announced his Big Baller Brand that was going to compete with Nike, he was banking on his 3 sons becoming dominant players and household names. Now I read where they are having a clearance sale in a gymnasium. LOL. So much for Big Baller Brand shoes, although they may have resale value 30 years from now, if they are unused. Any investors out there?

I doubt they honestly expected BBB to last long-term or honestly compete with even Asics shoes, let alone Nike. However, they new they could likely turn a quick profit while the Ball family was in the headlines. They probably made a few hundred grand pretty quickly off it. Now they can dispose of left over inventory at a discounted rate and still turn some degree of a profit. Pretty easy money of you ask me.

Pretty sure that profit turned into a deficit pretty quick if I remember correctly. Lonzo could have signed a massive multi million contract with Nike, Adidas etc. That was the easy money, now his stardom has faded considerably

^^ that’s extremely short sighted. All he’s done by doing what he’s done is make his son less attractive to NBA teams, killed his younger sons college opportunities, and made an *** of the entire family. If that’s worth a little money in the short term, so be it. But I’m guessing he’s cost his family millions down the line in the form of returns on free degrees and Lonzo’s options moving forward as well as destroying any chance he now has with Nike.

Which is what a lot of us were trying to tell people when they were saying what he was doing was smart. It wasn’t.

They were selling shoes like crazy initially. Granted it was only a few hundred pairs of each design that were initially created, but they sold out of the custom Lonzo and LaMelo shoes in the first couple of hours. And they were like $500 and $400 a pair.

Lonzo will still have a lot of opportunity for endorsement deals going forward. He was never the right fit for LA and should not have been drafted as highly as he was, however, the kid has got game than can translate well to the NBA. Playing in NO may be a huge benefit for him.

A few hundred pairs of shoes at a couple hundred dollars each <<<<<<<<<<< $1M dollar shoe deal from a big company. In addition, the production issues and overhaul ghosting of customers destroyed the "brand". It will be a few years before he gets a shoe deal, best shot was coming out and being top 3 draft pick with upside.

How do we know they were selling like crazy? That were/are not publicly owned. So no one knows how many they sold, how much they spent on marketing, production, inventory salaries, etc...
He could say they netted 5 million dollars; and no one would know.
I don't believe they made much of a net profit...jmo

It looks like reality hit him square in the face, which is good, you can't go through life talking and acting like that without getting knocked down a peg or two. He's lucky Lonzo is still in the league the other two will never make it in my opinion. He has nobody to blame except himself but I'm sure he doesn't see it that way.

Melo will most likely be a first round pick next year. Maybe lotto.

His sons had chances at great eductions that can pay out **** loads of money over time. Now maybe they wouldn’t have seized on those opportunities, but they could have. You can laugh, but neither of his younger sons are going to play in the NBA and I doubt last long overseas making much.

Lonzo was a 1st rounder who was never going to complete his education. The other 2 were expected to go similar routes. The middle kid was always overrated and pretty stupid evidently, considering he got caught stealing a pair of $300 sunglasses in a foreign country. He can still have a legit shot at the G league and maybe play his way onto a roster or go overseas. Considering he already had interest from overseas teams, I doubt it would be much of a stretch to get more now. The 3rd kid is projected to be a lottery pick in next years draft. https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...heir-point-guard-with-no-1-overall-selection/ So I highly doubt he was planning more than a 10 month stop at whatever school he chose. Hell, only Maxey of our players is currently projected to go above him. He must not be that bad.

Currently Nike and Adidas are in negotiations with Lonzo about a contract. He is highly expected to sign with Nike before the upcoming season. I don't think this imaginary loss you seem focused on is really even a blink to any of them. After all, I bet they all manged to get HS diplomas. [winking]

Nike and Adidas are both recently offered him. Reasonable chance others did as well and they weren't made public. He is widely expected to sign with Nike before for upcoming season starts.

According to a report from Nicekicks.com, Big Baller Brand's $495 signature "ZO2 Prime" sneaker sold approximately 263 units on the first day of availability. Yes, people actually bought them. The report also says some people even bought the $995 special edition "ZO2 Primes" signed by Lonzo, who has yet to score a point in the NBA.

Good for those people.

But you've got to give LaVar some credit because even though the price is absurd and he's absurd, the 263 pairs sold still netted $156,000 for Big Baller Brand.

The marketing scheme was to go on TV and say outlandish, borderline offensive stuff to create buzz and attention. That is usually pretty cheap and effective for a period of time.

Your gifs are childish and lame. Kind of cringe too.

There’s no record anywhere of how much they made. Nothing in stone. And they are notorious liars. Neither of his younger sons will play in the league long if at all. I highly doubt the younger will be a first rounder.

Are you saying that because they’re black and play basketball it’s funny to assume a Berkeley or UCLA degree would have been a viable option? Sure sounds like it.

I’m not disputing that the family has money. Lonzo was a top 3 pick, so of course. But their father is baggage, the name is now baggage. And in the early phase Nike wanted a deal, whatever he gets from them now won’t even be a decent fraction of that. His other sons have no value and both are pissing away a great educational opportunity.

There’s nothing smart about what they did.

Hit me up when the younger Ball goes lottery and sticks in the league. Also hit me up when Nike actually signs Lonzo to a big deal.

Maybe he gets a shoe deal, but 1) it won't be as much as he could have gotten entering his rookie year, his overall "hype" has dropped since then and 2) he's now lost 2 years of potential shoe contract money

They obviously bother you enough to comment on them, so objective accomplished.

They could be lying, but seems unlikely as it was never reported that Lonzo or any of the athletes were actually paid more than an annual per diem. So if they were going to lie, it seem illogical to not lie about the fact your star athlete is generating more than a $1,200 profit. Particularly when part of the business plan was to acquire other athletes to the BBB.

Well a lot of NBA personal disagree with you because there is a lot of positive buzz around the kid, particularly his shooting and offensive ability. So I think I will probably consider their opinions with a little more weight.

No, I am saying it because they are high level athletes with considerable professional interest, which for at least 2 of them was/is very mutually reciprocated. Considering the middle kid got NBA workouts and looks from teams this year, plus a few summer league offers, I would say there was some level of interest for him as well. Which ones were considering Berkeley? Which ones would have passed up a first or second rd draft pick to stay in school? Why does their race matter to you?

No doubt he will lose some value. More so for the fact he has not lived up to the billing yet than the fact he did not take their initial offer. He also gave his family a chance to make some money and build a brand. In the end they were able to make a few hundred grand and the brand did not work out. I highly doubt they expected it to. It doesn't change the fact he still has opportunities to sign with companies now and grow his deal if he improves his play.

His middle son was always overrated but still garnered interest. The youngest son will make more om his first contract next year than most of the people who have posted in this forum will make in the next 5 - 10 year combined. Making a few guaranteed million in the NBA is much smarter than getting a 4yr degree that might pay you 80,000 a year if you are lucky. And if you are smart, you really don't even need the college degree to get that.

Will do! I'm sure you will just blame them for being black or something off the wall.

That same link also admits we barely know anything about the dude’s actual game and how it translates to high end competition.

This. The Illawara Hawks will either vindicate his playing ability or expose his lack of it.

He's not playing in his dad's Junior Basketball Association any more and so his stat-padding days are through, so I'd bet on the latter.

No doubt, he took a risk and for his family it worked out to a degree. For him personally, he took a loss. But he still can improve that. Sign a lower, shorter deal endorsement deal now. Have a couple big seasons, make a couple all-star teams and the amounts likely get higher than the initial offers were back then.
