IF he misses on Blackshear I wonder if he tries to get someone to reclass.I think Todd,Maker and Omoruyi already said they are staying in their class.Dante might reclass but I've read he is an LSU and Oregon lean. It's just hard to have faith in Nick/EJ because both seemed lost last season.

Fantastic guard play but this is probably the weakest frontcourt we have had in the Cal era. Maybe the Harrellson year but that team played out of their ***!

Nobody really left that would make much of a difference.IMO we will have a good team but I have my doubts if it will be a championship level group.Questions about the frontcourt and outside shooting.

Besides Michigan st don’t see anyone that is clearly better than the Cats. May be a wide open year and that could be in our favor

Nope. I’d take this one over 2016 every day. Skal was useless, Lee was mediocre and Poythress would disappear for games at a time. I think Sestina will be really good and steady and I think EJ improves quite a bit.

Sestina's problem is going to be defense. He has always been poor at that and we all know how much value Cal places on it.

NBA Draft didn't do Oregon or LSU any favors. Bol dropped like a rock and Naz Reid going undrafted. Brutal. For all the negative recruiting UK gets for some serious exaggerated and flat out false reasons, the numbers don't lie and these schools failed these guys. Lou King is another at Oregon and Altman is a fine coach, so not a shot at him, but results are in whether you are prepared or not and get selected or not. Bad look.

Draft did more positives for UK in aspects that wasn't related to their personnel while PJ/Herro going Lottery didn't hurt. Johnson was going to drop but still went 1st Round. A lot of programs were telling recruits in '19 class the entire UK roster would return because they didn't have a 1st rounder and that includes the cool NBA guys at Memphis. Keep the lies coming....only helping '20/'21 recruiting more.

Ulis and Murray was arguably the best 1-2 combo Cal has had. The rest of the team was so bad that they could make it past the 2nd round.

It shouldn't have been that way. If Skal would have lived up to his reputation that would have been a FF team. EDIT: Could've won it all.

Wanted to squeeze should have, would have and could have into one post! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Unfortunately for fans that’s only have fans view things. Recruits don’t view it that way at all. Was just talking to a couple out here after our private basketball run including Nico Mannion and he said as much as well as how they don’t really view how other kids do as far as where they get drafted because they understand that they are different players with different games so you can’t say “well since it didn’t work for him it won’t work for me”

The funny thing Nico said was “that’s pretty much how fans that have never played think since hey either we’re never good enough or confident enough” which is so true so I had to laugh. The reality is kids ranked like that or even lower ranked feel they are better than others which is one reason they make it to college an beyond. A player at a school not making it has no bearings on how they view the school. Now a school sending players to the NBA that have similar games, height does have some bearing on them though

I would like one more piece in the UK frontcourt to help relieve foul trouble. That's just my opinion, though.

Whatever Cal decides, I'm good with.

UK is more than good enough to win a title without Blackshear. Neither of the last two Title winners had a dominant big man.
But they had very good outside shooting and I'm not sure this group will have that.

No chance he does we have the best roster in the country and if someone says MSU tell me how many NBA players they have 2 maybe? We have 6-8 . But I think we get Kb . He is icing on the cake though .

Sestina , Juzang , Quick , Maxey ,Alllen all are 38-44 % shooters . Hagans ,Whitney, Brooks will be 30-35% shooting is literally the last thing anyone needs to worry about . This isn't 2014.

Not the case with Dante's Camp and especially with the ***t being thrown at UK from both programs involved. UK is starting to push back and it's good. Can't argue with numbers/facts. If you want to go your own path, no problem. Want to make excuses.....well they were in living rooms of Bol and Reid. They know what was being said about them and if you want to throw in Lou King, feel free as well. But facts and numbers as in $ matter with players like Dante. If you want to go the Bol route, good luck. Want to go UDFA like Reid, good luck. Want to go somewhere that bigs make $$$, you can look at the history.

I'm not a fanboy of UK, grew up a Georgetown fan and like Cal. But I know a few people and can say this past Thursday helped UK in certain recruitments and they are starting to fire back. Cal throwing some shade today was great as well. His staff has been asking him to defend the program more and today was a step. So is telling players and their camps to pay attention to reality and not invest in hope. Hope isn't a plan.

Players should always believe in themselves and what Mannion said was great but in case of Dante......and his camp is split and some of the shade thrown UK's way is complete nonsense.

Good deal!! Oh & you were one of the very few that threw doubt in Blackshear coming here. Glad to hear some rational thinking instead of the constant sunshine pumpers.

No but let's be honest that both really struggled last season.
Yeah, but we have coaches who get paid a lot of money who are supposed to be some of the best in the business and who are paid to develop them.

Kerry Blackshear put up 6 and 4 as a freshman and he developed. Nate Sestina put up 3 points, 4 points, and 6 points his first 3 years and he developed. Why can't Nick and EJ Develop?

Nick sure didn't improve from his freshman to soph year.Maybe EJ will.

EJ didn’t get a lot of playing time but Richards had plenty and when he didn’t play a lot it was due to foul trouble. Getting lost on defense multiple times won’t get him very much playing time either. It would be nice if Cal would just run a small ball offense and then he wouldn’t have to worry about finding the next AD or Karl-Anthony Towns.

I can understand this.

Any confident person feels this way about whatever they endeavor to do.

You take a job, you don't ask why the last person to have this job left? You don't care that he burned out after five years, that's not going to be you.

You don't question why this girl you are marrying has been divorced three times, you are a better man those those previous three guys.

You don't question why this school district always has teacher openings, you are the best teacher around and can make a difference with those kids.

So it kind of makes sense.

But that confidence/cockiness can bite you in the butt, and you end up stuck in a dead end job or divorced from the girl that can't stay married.

Or playing for a coach that can't help you get to the pros.

Yeah, cause no player ever improves year to year. Just look at PJ.

Potential NBA players and championships kinda goes hand in hand. I know there are some instances where junior senior dominated roster has won it but it seems like it doesn’t happen often.
